Fort Street (top) and Requena Street (bottom), Los Angeles.

Circa 1890.

These are great photos, obviously, but you know what the best part is?  No traffic!

memoriastoica:

Brookhurst Street, Anaheim, California.

Circa 1970s.

I have a very strong emotional reaction to these very non-descript photos, because…I live extremely near these locations.   I recognize that strip mall even.  The nostalgia is almost overwhelming.

Thanks to memoriastoica for posting…

The Carroll Apartments, Bunker Hill, Los Angeles.
Circa 1960.
Now demolished.

Here’s an interesting, illustrated, write-up of the fate of old Bunker Hill and all of the old buildings there.

Laguna Beach, 1920s

I love those humongous tents.  I’d probably go to the beach more often if I could bring myself to lug one of those things along.  Oh, and it would help a lot if it had a bathroom in it with plumbing.  And if I could be there on a day when the sand wasn’t hot and getting everywhere.

Cameo Theater, 528 South Broadway, Los Angeles.
Circa 1978.
Now shuttered.

The Cameo has clearly seen better days.  It used to be somebody.  It used to be a contender.  Read all about it here…

Just lovely.  I hate the idea that these wooden poles are gradually being replaced by steel ones.  I don’t care about environmental impact shit.  I love the way these guys look, dammit.
